Terms of Service
Last updated 7 July 2026
These terms cover your use of Sheaf (sheaf.ink). By using Sheaf, you agree to them.
The service
Sheaf is a local-first writing app for creating and organising your writing. Core writing works on your device without an account; optional cloud sync and backup require an account.
Your writing is yours
You keep all rights to everything you write in Sheaf. We claim no ownership of your content. If you enable sync, you grant us only the limited permission needed to store and transmit your content to provide the service to you — nothing more. In Vault mode we can't read it at all.
Your account
You're responsible for keeping your sign-in access and, if you use Vault mode, your Vault passphrase and recovery code secure. Because Vault mode is zero-knowledge, we cannot reset or recover your Vault passphrase — if you lose both it and your recovery code, your encrypted writing cannot be recovered by anyone, including us.
Acceptable use
Don't use Sheaf to break the law, infringe others' rights, or disrupt the service. We may suspend accounts that do.
Availability & changes
We work to keep Sheaf available and your data safe, but the service is provided "as is" without warranties. We may change or discontinue features, and will give reasonable notice of material changes where we can.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, Sheaf isn't liable for indirect or consequential damages, or for loss of data beyond the amount you paid us (if anything) in the prior 12 months. Please keep your own backups of writing that matters to you — Sheaf's export makes this easy.
Fees & refunds
Sheaf's core writing is free, forever, on your device — there is no subscription. Cloud sync & backup and the publishing suite are unlocked with a single one-time purchase; the price is always shown clearly before you're charged, and every new account includes a free trial with no card required. Orders are processed by our merchant of record, Paddle.com, who handle payment, invoicing, and sales tax.
If something's gone wrong with a purchase, email hello@sheaf.ink and we'll make it right; refund requests are honored in line with Paddle's buyer terms (including a 14-day window). The full details live in our Refund Policy. Your writing always remains on your devices regardless — a refund only pauses sync, it never touches your words.
Termination
You can stop using Sheaf and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end access for violations of these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; the current version lives here with its date. Continued use means you accept the updates.
